Fun-Filled Easter Sunday at the Brandywine Point-to-Point Races
68th Running Benefits Brandywine Valley Association
The sound of hooves pounding on the turf… the sight of colorful silks soaring over timber jumps… and the Easter Bunny? If you're looking for a fun-filled way to spend Easter then come out and enjoy the thrilling sport of steeplechase racing at the 68th running of Brandywine Point-to-Point on Sunday, April 4. The racing and Easter festivites take place on the rolling countryside of the Brandywine Valley Association's 318-acre Myrick Conservation Center on Route 842 approximately six miles west of West Chester and three miles east of Unionville.
The oldest steeplechase racing event in the Delaware Valley, at the Brandywine Point-to-Point, old friendships are renewed and news ones are created. Spirited
horses and skilled riders navigate a challenging 3-mile course that features 17 jumps. The first race begins at 12:00 with six races to follow. Race divisions include: Small and Large Pony, Heavyweight, Novice, Open, Foxhunter's class.
After dealing with three monster snowstorms from late January through February, trainers from the region are anxious to unleash their crop of 2010 jumpers as they prep for Maryland's premiere jump races in the coming weeks. Brandywine Point-to-Point race director Carl "Bunny" Meister expects a strong field of horses for the Easter Day races.
For race-goers tickets are available to the "All Are Welcome Brunch" that kicks off at 11:30 a.m. This year children's activities have multiplied like bunnies: an Easter Parade led by the Bunny himself, an egg hunt for 3 to 9 year olds, face painting, stick pony races and the always entertaining children's lead-line race.
Radnor Hunt Club is once again the presenting sponsor and welcomes all race goers to their pavilion. More than a dozen items will be raffled off, including
a one-week stay for two at an oceanfront deluxe condo in Kauai, Hawaii, a painting by equine artist John Redmond and a bronze by Carrie Quaid.
All proceeds from the Point-to-Point help the Brandywine Valley Association fulfill its mission of promoting and preserving the natural resources of the Brandywine Valley. The Brandywine watershed covers approximately 325 square acres of land and water in southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware.
Over the past decade the Point-to-Point has raised more than $200,000 for the Brandywine Valley Association.
